Sri Lanka’s tourism ministry has approved to issue a free visa on arrival for Indian passport holders. Sri Lankan government has taken this step to promote tourism after the terrorist attack.
In the new free visa program, Sri Lanka has added 10 additional countries which were previously excluded from the 39 countries free visa scheme. Now Visa on arrival for Indians and Chinese is added to the list of free visa scheme with effect from 1st August.
This scheme was previously introduced to promote tourism in the off-season during the period from May to October But after the terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday tourism in Sri Lanka was very much affected, so this new rule will help to boost tourism in the country.
Visa on arrival for Indians will definitely help Sri Lanka to improve tourism because India is the biggest contributor to their tourism, Indians visit Sri Lanka for pilgrimage tourism and leisure travel. Now free visa on arrivals for Indians will allow boosting Ramayana trail. Sri Lanka is one of the cheapest countries to visit from Inda.

The countries are, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States of America, Japan, Australia, South Korea, Canada, Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand and Switzerland.
Free visa on arrival to 10 additional countries, including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, Philippines, Russia, China, India, and England.
