Thailand is focussing on India and China as its primary regions for enhancing tourism to the country. Hence, visa-free stay for both countries is on the table.
Till October 2019 – Indians traveling to Thailand can avail the visa-on-arrival facility for free, They can stay in Thailand for 14 Days.
Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism for Thailand, has announced that visa-free travel for India and China will be introduced by end of this year. Indians and Chinese passport holders would be able to enjoy a visa-free stay in Thailand for up to 14 days.
The new visa reform could be effective as early as 1st November 2019 and is expected to make a significant impact on Thailand tourism.
Thailand has set a revenue target of TBH 3.4 trillion through tourism, including domestic tourism in 2019. The revenue from international tourists is expected to reach around TBH 2.2 trillion. The earnings from tourist arrivals are most likely to hit more than 40.5 million.
Initial news reports suggest that the visa-free stay project will be launched as a 1-year pilot. The current visa-on-arrival project ends on 31st October. The new visa-free project will become effective a day after that, that is, 1st November 2019.
The Tourism Minister expects Chinese tourists to reach as much as 11 million this year.
In 2018, 1.5 million Indians visited Thailand. This made India the sixth-largest source country of tourists for Thailand, as per The Times of India. 2018 saw an impressive 27% increase in the number of Indian tourists to Thailand as compared to 2017.
